Frequently Asked Questions

  • Fees start at $4,000 per month plus tax. Contacts start at 12 months.

  • The Fractional CVO role is a leadership role, not a coverage role. Strategy, systems, and coaching can all happen remotely. What cannot happen remotely is day-to-day contact with volunteers, which is why this model requires a coordinator or staff member already on the ground.

I come in above that person, not instead of them. I provide the strategy, the structure, and the coaching that makes their work stronger and more sustainable. They handle the in-person relationships. I make sure they have what they need to do that well.

There will be times I come on-site. But my value is not my physical presence. It is the leadership layer your coordinator has been missing.

  • In-person engagements are planned, not routine. When on-site time makes sense for the work, travel and lodging are billed separately from the monthly retainer. We agree on the scope and cost before anything is scheduled.

  • In some ways, yes. In others, no.

I set goals and priorities aligned with the plan, approve workplans and timelines, and provide coaching and feedback on execution. That is real oversight. The coordinator is not working without direction.

What I do not do is serve as their HR manager or organizational supervisor. A staff member inside the organization still needs to hold that role. Specifically, I do not:

    • Make executive decisions or serve as the primary escalation point for organizational issues

    • Provide coverage when a staff member is out

    • Complete formal performance reviews, approve timecards, or handle PTO and leave requests

I can participate in a performance review upon request. But the day-to-day employment relationship stays with your organization.

  • We don’t track hours. We focus on deliverables and outcomes. In the plan we create (the first deliverable) everything will be clearly outlined around what the deliverables are and the timelines.

  • Completely. We don’t offer generic services for fractional partnerships. Everything is custom-fit to your organization’s goals, team, and context. From the strategy right down to implementation. Everything is specific to your organization

  • Some outcomes happen quickly (like clarity, strategy, and triage); others take time (like shifting culture or implementing new systems). We focus on momentum with integrity. We don't overpromise quick fixes, but we do make real, measurable progress.

  • Not quite. Most consultants give advice and leave. This is closer to a staff model, with some important distinctions.

I may attend staff meetings and internal operations when it makes strategic sense for the work. I am not present for everything, but I am not operating from a distance either.

Where I differ from staff: I set my own hours and working conditions, use my own equipment, and work with multiple clients at the same time.

Most of the work happens remotely. But because volunteer leadership is built on relationships, there are times I will show up in person.

  • Totally normal. We’re happy to help you prepare for board conversations or even join to present scope and outcomes clearly and concisely.

  • I typically work on 12-month contracts to ensure meaningful change and impact. But I can start with an initial project or planning phase if you're not ready for full implementation.
